WELCOME

GOING BACK:

In my portfolio are my original pieces since I was in the 7th grade to current date. It took well over 300+ hours to finish all of the pieces. I started drawing when I was 2 and have loved it ever since. Making art in junior high let me express myself in a way that I couldn’t with words or in any of my other subjects. It was an outlet in high school. Art made it possible for me to vent out my stresses in a visually comprehensible way that I could understand. It was a way to create a message to myself that I would only know.

MOVING ON:

Right before I got my own place, my artwork was lost for about 3 weeks. Many of my colored pieces and nearly all of my black and white pieces were put in a box and left on the curb in a neighborhood in Fort Worth. I was tremendously hurt by this because I had lost my countless hours of hard work that I had carefully created.

Thankfully, I received an email saying that someone in the neighborhood had found my art. Within days, I had it back and it was hanging in my apartment. It continues to inspire my artwork to this day and is a hanging reminder of my accomplishments.

This is my portfolio for the world to see. This is my legacy. Please enjoy.

“Keep creating, for art is eternal.” -J

  • Flowers: The good side of humanity (innocence, playfulness, prosperity, success, etc.)

  • Man: Humanity itself

Artist Statement:

This piece shows how man is constantly in battle with the good and bad in life along with the many choices (arrows) that can determine their fate. It shows how humanity is naturally closer to the bad, but has good near/ in reach

  • We all have good and bad in us, our choices, however, determine the amount of each

1-18-19, 6.5 in x 8 in, 11+ hours, Media: Ink and marker on bristol board

Symbolism:

  • Skeleton: Humanity’s fate/ the human mindset

  • Koi fish: Perseverance

  • Dragonflies: Change/ transformation

  • Planets: New ideas/ ways of thinking

  • Background: Our world/ society that only we can construct and build

Artist Statement:

This piece shows humanity and how we rely on our own opinions/ thoughts. Because of our strong desire to support one side, we forget that there’s another side that we haven’t even explored. Who knows what they could have in mind for us? However, if we keep our one-side-way-of-thinking, we may end up condemning ourselves into an undesirable situation. Unless we chose to change. Once we change our ways of thinking, then can we persevere and grow to become a better society.

2-8-19, 6 in x 8 in, 11+ hours, Media: Ink, acrylic and marker on bristol board

Symbolism:

  • Elephants: My personality and inner self

  • Butterflies: The people and things that bring me joy and make me happy

  • Portrait of myself: Who I am

Artist Statement:

This piece shows how the things in life that I love bring my inner self out of my shell. It shows how my true personality is shoved down into my shell until things that I enjoy/ people I love bring it out. Without those people and those things that bring me joy, I would be nobody.

To all of my people who love and support me. I love you all. Thank you for making living worthwhile.

1-18-19, 6.5 in x 8 in, 11+ hours

Media: Ink and marker on bristol board

Artist Statement:

Society now, is cut off. Cut off from other religions, races, laws. We are biased to each other’s ideas because we fear that they may not agree with our own. We all want to have our own ideas and come together, but we don’t have the mindset to hear everyone’s voices. We seclude people because of what they may believe, how they act, and how they look. This mindset will lead to the destruction of humanity itself. But it doesn’t have to. We have the choice to change. To transform. To become more welcoming and accepting to one another. We need to be. Because if we don’t, we destroy our society. We destroy our people. We destroy ourselves. We all have the power to become better than we are today. Right now. All just by being open minded. By seeing the world as something beautiful; not something that could have been beautiful without ______ . Everyone is important. Everyone matters. No matter their race, religion, who they love, where they came from, where they are going, what they are doing, how they are doing it, or what their aspirations are. Love everyone, and see what happens.

Symbolism:

  • Lightbulb: Protection

  • Girl: The youth of society

  • Sharks and jellyfish: The bad things in society

  • Old hands: The adults in society (parents, teachers, etc.)

Artist Statement:

This piece shows how the old are supposed to protect the young in society. Our parents and teachers try to protect us from the things that may look “pretty” or “tempting” but in reality are bad for us such as drugs, bullying, etc. By doing this, they protect us from harm and hurt that we may not know about.

2-28-19, 5 in x 9 in, 9+ hours

Media: Ink, marker, and acrylic on bristol board

Symbolism:

  • Hourglass: Our time -owls: wisdom, self awareness

  • Rabbits: Things that make time pass quickly (stress, anxiety, etc.)

Artist Statement:

This piece is a call to action for us to become self aware about how we use our time. We have to realize that we can’t worry and think about everything around us. Therefore, we’re left with the decision to live with our given circumstances without the constant worry over what has happened or what will happen. By living without that fear of not knowing, we liberate our minds and ourselves.

3-24-19, 6 in x 8 in, 18+ hours

Media: Ink, marker, and acrylic on bristol board

Symbolism:

  • Goldfish: Change

  • Chess pieces: Everyone’s internal fight with judgement and themselves

  • Temple: Safe place where everyone is forgiven (The world that we could be living in.)

  • Planets: Patience and forgiveness

Artist Statement: Over the past few weeks, I‘ve realized the importance of patience. Patience with others and oneself. Saying, “It’s okay” to yourself after making a mistake or “Take your time” when waiting on others, is exactly what society needs right now. Everyone is so used to getting everything with the press of a button -instant satisfaction- that we have forgotten how to wait. I find others being impatient with themselves more than others; Talking themselves down after they mess up or after doing something wrong; “Oh it’s all my fault” “I should have done better” “I’m worthless”. This mindset of scolding oneself before others get the chance, has taken away our will to forgive. We must learn that there are better ways to take the downfalls of others and ourselves. We must learn to wait and be patient so we can let go of the unimportant things.

Media: Ink, marker, and acrylic on Bristol board

Artist Statement:

To better ourselves and to learn from our mistakes, we must endure difficult times. Once we do, we achieve a sense of peace, calm waters, closure. This piece represents that sense of peace by depicting beautiful things that once could not be seen until after getting through those rough times. It is a reminder of all of the things to look forward to when you feel like there is nothing may come. When life’s problems become too much. How we must keep in mind that these hard times will pass. No matter how long. We just need to try to keep our mindsets positive and look forward to the beautiful things in life.

Artist Statement:

Vulnerability is the state of being exposed to harm either physically or emotionally. When people are hurt, they tend to close off to the rest of the world. The result of this: A biased mindset. I wanted to create this art piece as a request for people to become unbiased towards life. Inspired by the eye catching piece Dissolving Patterns by Dimitria Milan, I created a surrealistic piece with movement and meaning.

Artist Statement:

Time will always pass by whether we want it to or not. So will people and the tangible things. How we use our time with the people and things is our choice. This piece is a self evaluation of how your time is being spent. Are you investing wisely? This piece is a reminder to be productive and to use your time to better yourself and others. To grow and learn. To become better than you are today and to help others do the same

When people look at life, they're drawn to solve the problems they know how to face. As a result, opportunities are turned down due to fear of uncertainty. This piece shows the relationship between pleasure and pain; A message to those who see it to take risks to better themselves, even with uncertainty. By using, Procreate, I created this piece with different layering techniques, layer effects, and brushes to create certain textures.

Artist Statement:

Like the schools of fish, humans are able to adapt to whatever situation they are faced with, together. However, nowadays, humans are becoming more distant from each other. We must choose to either work together or accept self demise. This piece pushes the viewer to learn and expand their ways for the better. One fish will not survive alone, however if we learn to work together as a collective, we will be able to accomplish what we want.

Lately I’ve found myself stuck in this sort of dreamland. Where I could do the things I wanted to do, unrestricted by the opinions of others. My own little escape. It calms me down in places where I feel like my responsibilities are too much to deal with. Lately I’ve also realized the power of manifestation. That I can control the boundary between my dreams and my reality. As a result, my own “wanderland” becomes reality. That I can do everything.
